Mental Health Awareness Week and the Human Benefits of Natural Light

May 15, 2018

Daylighting has been touted for its many aesthetic and health benefits by designers and researchers alike. Scientists at the Lighting Research Center (LRC), in Troy, N.Y., for example, have reported that daylit environments increase occupant productivity and comfort, and provide the mental and visual stimulation necessary to regulate human circadian rhythms.*

Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle. They respond primarily to light and darkness in an organism's environment. Sleeping at night and being awake during the day is an example of a light-related circadian rhythm.**

Regulation your circadian rhythm is paramount for sustaining human life and mental health as described and explained so brilliantly by Matthew Walker in his book 'Why We Sleep'.

We all need natural light.....
